The Fenway is
home to a unique
and vibrant variety of uses. Filled in soon after the Back Bay in the
mid to late 1800s, the area soon developed a mix of cultural and
institutional components shared in close quarters within its
residential neighborhoods. Fenway today is home to the Red
Sox in
historic Fenway Park, the cultural and artistic treasures of the Museum
of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the passive and
active green areas of the Olmsted-designed Fens parks, the renowned
hospitals and research institutes of the Longwood Medical Area, and
educational institutions such as Northeastern University.
Presently, the face and infrastructure of the area is rapidly changing
and renewing itself because almost all of these institutions and
facilities are experiencing some form of construction, be it renovation
or expansion. During this period of redevelopment, the Fenway retains a
vital mix of activity, but its future, like that of the city, depends
on balancing the interests of local residents and these larger
institutions.
All events are free and open to the public. Some events have limited space, marked as such in the schedule below. We suggest that you pre-register to confirm your spot by emailing fenway@commonboston.org with the specific event(s) of interest.

Designed by Cannon Design and Chan Krieger Sieniewicz, the building is connected visually to its original building via façade renovations and through a transparent glass bridge that crosses over Francis Street to the new building. In addition to the environmental commitments of the structure and its many aims to resolve the old with the new, the building program also implements features to allow for high-performance technology and treatments and to elevate the experience and well-being of visitors through state of the art rooms with sweeping views of the city.
