Fenway
June 24th and 25th
co-hosted by the Fenway Alliance
The first thing “Fenway” brings to mind may be baseball or the Longwood medical and academic area, but there’s much more to it than that. Originally annexed in 1873 and landfilled in the 1890s, Fenway today is a diverse neighborhood of approximately 36,000 residents, one-third of whom have family roots that stretch back generations. Of course, there are “eds and meds” (the academic and medical community), but Fenway also includes centers of music and arts, beads on Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace, and a vibrant business community.
Learn about Fenway’s institutions, history and present. Tour the Fenway Studios with architect Brad Bellows. Explore the history and architecture of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Check out the Muddy River and its landscapes, and architecture with Hugh Mattison of the Muddy River Maintenance and Management Oversight Committee (MMOC). Walk with Mark Swartz of the Olmstead National Historic Site, and learn about visions and revisions of the Back Bay Fens. Join Samuels and Associates in a discussion of development along Boylston Street. Kick off the week at the dParty, hosted by Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Register for these and other events, many co-hosted by the Fenway Alliance, at www.commonboston.org/fenway.
