Connect the Necklace: Bike Advocacy Tour
June 18th 10:30 a.m. (approx 5 hours)
Meets at Roslindale Farmers Market
Please note that this event is on Saturday to coincide with the Farmers Market
This will be a leafy, mostly flat ride through Frederick Olmsted’s beautiful Emerald Necklace park system.
At several key points along the park system, neighborhood, park, and bicycle advocates are devising ways to repair the gaps that were created during the heyday of the automobile and the highway. Proposals and public processes in Forest Hills, Brookline, and Charlesgate could, if all goes well, make it safe and enjoyable to circumnavigate the city by park once again. Riders will meet many of these advocates and planners along the way and get a chance to visualize both the future and the past.
This ride begins in Roslindale and ends in Beacon Hill (There will be the opportunity to attend afternoon events in Beacon Hill/West End). Meet at the Boston Cyclists Union tent at the Farmers Market (Adams Park in Roslindale Square) at 10:30 am. Light refreshments will be served, provided by Keller Williams Realty. The ride will leave at 11am.
Most of this ride will follow paths but some riding on the street is necessary. All riders must wear helmets and sign a waiver. It is advisable to bring a spare inner tube in case of a flat. Please plan about 1/2 day for this event.
Registration is not required but highly recommended.
