Get ready! Submission process starts NOW!

A display of student work focusing on the Boston community. This exhibition will show student design work that looks critically at our city, and investigates ways of making our buildings/public spaces/communities more functional, intriguing and equitable.  In conjunction with the CommonBoston 08 festival, and focusing on six Boston communitiies, the exhibition aims to engage these neighborhoods' residents and visitors in the design and decision making of their built environment. The exhibition will coincide with the AIA National Convention and be installed in and around the MBTA stations before moving to the main concourse of South Station. Don't miss this opportunity to publicly showcase your design work!

Exhibit Board Parameters:
  • Project Type - Projects should be community focused and located in Boston and near one of the T stations listed above. Private projects will be considered based on their social function and their integration with the local built environment.

  • Quantity -
We will be limited to the number of projects that we can display. We will pick 3-4 projects from each school. We will choose projects based on location (closer to the 5 chosen neighborhoods the better) and community driven content. Our mission is to create a better Boston through discussion and activism. For example, we would choose a community center design over a private residence design. All studio levels are welcome.

Each Student is limited to 1 board; team projects may have 2 boards. We have limited space in each location.

  • Board Format Instructions -
    1) Each board should be a 24x36 vertical format and include the Common Boston Footer at the bottom. The footer is 24”W x 1.5”H; the footer should be justified tight to the bottom of the 36" high board and span the full 24” wide (see example board). Provide Project Title and Designer Name(s) in the footer as indicated in example board provided. Footer Title / Name text requirements as follows:
-- Two lines of text, left justified. Insert text near left side of footer, 1/2" right of vertical white line (see example board).
-- Project Title on top line, Arial 48 point Bold.
-- Designer name(s) and school/program on lower line, Standard Capitalization, Arial 30 Point. The name of each student involved in the project should be listed on the board

    2) The remaining board space above the footer is available for all design content. Student/student-teams can put as much information on the board as they feel necessary. There should be at least a brief (one paragraph) description of the project and appropriate drawings/images (plans, section, perspectives). All text should be minimum 16 pt.

    3) Completed board layouts should be saved as PDF's sized 24"x 36" w/ 150 ppi resolution (3600 p X 5400 p). See notes below for submission information.
